Pet Food Pantry Program – VCA Charities

Published by VCA Inc. in Charities, Pet Food Pantry October 26, 2016

VCA Charities mission is simple and direct…”help pets in need”.  It was founded with the clear mission of making a difference in the lives of pets in need.  VCA Charities continues to stride towards this mission by supporting programs, organizations, and causes that promote pet healthcare education, proactive veterinary care, proper pet nutrition, and prevention of cruelty to animals.

One of the most successful program’s to date is VCA Charities Pet Food Pantry’s.

What is the Pet Food Pantry Program?

In June 2010 VCA Charities launched the first location of the national Pet Food Pantry (PFP) program in Venice, CA.  The PFP was created to provide nutritious meals to low-income families to help keep their pets healthy and happy.  It has since expanded to 28 locations (25 in the US and 3 in Canada).  The PFP mission is to provide healthy, nutritious pet food to low-income families that could not otherwise afford it.

In 2013, Hill’s Pet Nutrition became the co-sponsor of the PFP program providing the pet food to VCA as an in-kind donation. The annual cost to provide the pet food for each PFP location is approximately $5000.  The Pet Food Pantry program provides over 22,000 lbs. of pet food or 170,000 meals to animals in need annually.  Over the history of the PFP program VCA and VCA Charities has provided over 1,000,000 meals to animals in need.  With the support from Hill’s, VCA Charities is looking to open 20 additional PFP locations before the end of 2016.  This amazing pet food program helps to validate the VCA Charities mission of bettering the lives of needy pets and their families.
