Challenge: Create technology driven conference rooms, training rooms, and a communications network for 3,000 employees in the largest building in Philadelphia while it is being constructed.
Solution: Build 100+ A/V-enabled spaces and a building-wide digital signage system with the latest technology.
Results: Increased productivity, more efficient training system, company-wide news distribution, and a new tourist attraction.
Organization
Comcast Corporation is the largest cable television provider, the 2nd largest internet service provider, and 3rd largest phone company in North America, employing over 100,000 individuals in their 300+ offices.
Challenge
Comcast needed to create a “Statement Building” that communicated its strength and commitment as one of the largest and most progressive communication and technology companies in the world. The building needed to be unique and innovate yet easy to maintain and operate with 3,000 people working in the building every day. The Project Team faced many challenges including an aggressive timeline, poor freight access, and coordinating the installation of equipment while rooms were still being constructed.
Project
VCA was chosen by Comcast to engineer and install all of the major presentation technology needed for Comcast to communicate and work productively in their new building. The 58-story tall Comcast Center, the largest building in Philadelphia, contains some of the most advanced Audio/Video solutions available including: a 2000 square-foot High Definition LED wall, C-nario Digital Signage Systems, and state-of-the-art interactive classrooms, board rooms, and multi-purpose rooms. VCA relied upon its staff of experienced engineers, project managers, and installers to come together and produce A/V solutions based on Comcast’s needs for a strong communication environment. Taking the designs from consultant Shen, Milson, Wilke, VCA engineered the shop diagrams used to build over 100 A/V-enabled rooms at the Comcast Center. VCA was tasked with fabricating and installing presentation rooms, display walls, conference rooms, multi-purpose divisible rooms, and a complete digital signage network for the entire building.
Results
Company-wide communications have been augmented with their C-nario Digital Signage Network displaying company news throughout the building. The Standard Conference Rooms, Executive Conference Center, and Executive Board Room all function to provide a multitude of meeting spaces for all of the different divisions of Comcast. The Comcast University has become Comcast’s premiere educational facility, training hundreds of its workforce and reducing the costs for separate education facilities. Comcast Center has also become a prime tourist attraction with buses stopping in front of the building to gaze at the largest LED wall in the nation. Due to our work at Comcast Center, VCA has been awarded other projects in the building including HD Videoconferencing rooms using LifeSize Systems, and the construction of new distance learning facilities.
